The Left Index

June 2012, Halifax, Canada
Steel, 190cm × 120 cm × 215cm

With the use of biometric data I have scaled up my fingerprint creating a three dimensional sculpture of my left index finger’s ridges on the finger pad. The piece was temporarily installed along the shoreline of Halifax’s harbour and in 2013 it was installed at St Mary’s University Art Gallery for the exhibition Obsolescence and Inscription. This is the first in a series of ten fingerprints to be fabricated. Each fingerprint is self-supported by the steel plate from which they appear to have been torn from.
